But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of heaven — Matthew 19:14
It seems that we continue to argue over women’s rights and her decision to choose. As Christians and as a country, it is more evident than ever before, based on recent events, that we are in grave jeopardy.
This week a prominent Supreme Court ruling was overturned, giving the rights back to the states, which is covered under the Tenth Amendment. The Supreme Court serves to interpret and protect the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution does not cover abortion. However, it does guarantee the “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” in the 9th Amendment. Geroge Mason described these inalienable rights to include one’s safety.
We are on a downward slope, becoming a more and more self-centered generation, more concerned with what is convenient for us and less concerned with what He instructed. When it’s convenient for us, obeying His commands is simple, but as soon as they become difficult or stand in the way of our desires, it’s simple to reason them away.
Children are represented in the Bible as gifts from God (Genesis 4:1), an inheritance from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5), a blessing from God (Luke 1:42), and a crown for the old (Proverbs 17:6).
A gift. A blessing. Those are not something one discards or abandons, much alone kills.
Basics of Science
The fallopian tube is where fertilization, the joining of a female egg and male sperm, happens. The quickest sperm, according to Discovery Health, can fertilize an egg within 30 minutes after intercourse. Some reach the fallopian tube, where they “hang around” until the egg comes.
Fertilization is the beginning of human life, and consequently the commencement of pregnancy. The freshly formed embryo then travels down the fallopian tube and implants in the uterus. Implantation is required for a newborn to obtain nutrients from the mother and continue to grow.
During the five to seven days, it takes for an embryo to travel from the fallopian tube to the uterus, pregnancy cannot be easily recognized. Therefore, the third mode of action is possible if a woman ingests emergency contraception after fertilization has occurred. The uterine lining may be changed to cause women to reject the live embryo, making implantation impossible and resulting in the child’s death. This is known as a chemical abortion.
The most horrendous justification for this approach that I’ve heard was that it was better than murdering thousands of newborns in the future. “Murder them now or kill them later” seems less alluring. However, we are currently seeing a change in this way of thinking as well. New York, along with eight other states, now allows women to have an abortion on their due date. This is why the push to overturn Roe v Wade was made.
There is no medical reason for this, according to medical experts. Regardless, the killing of a living being remains murder. Regardless of your stance on Roe v Wade, the sixth commandment is still in force. Murder is still wrong in God’s eyes. This movement was never about a woman’s rights. Nothing really has changed, except the fact that it’s now the state’s decision. You still can get an abortion. (You just have to travel to a state where it is legal.) You still can get contraceptives. None of that has changed.
Biblical Truth
The Bible defined pregnancy long before medical doctors got involved. Biology 101 has long stated, that “life begins at conception.” David confirms this in Psalm 139:16: “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” Scripture after scripture preaches that before the baby is ever formed, God knew them; God consecrated them (Jeremiah 1:5); He set them apart (Galatians 1:15); formed them in the womb (Isiah 44:24), and gives them life (Job 33:4).
We are so preoccupied with what we want and how we wish to live. This concept links us to harmful habits, relationships, and lifestyles. When life is centered on us, there is little place for God. When there is no place for God, we adapt to our society and become aligned with the world.
We were not called to be conformed to this world. We were called to be set apart. John wrote, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth” (John 17:15-18).
Additionally, Christians should remember the message of Paul’s epistle: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).
Brothers and sisters, we have been called to be the salt and light to the world. This world is hurting. They need to truth more now than ever. It’s time we are Jesus to them; filled with compassion, burning with fire, and speaking the undiluted truth. We need to be lambs that roar! Embrace the hurting around you. Show compassion. Love on people! Show Jesus to the world!
As always, if you are in need of prayer or know someone who is, I would be happy to pray for you. Drop a comment below or send me an email. I don’t need details. God knows! Much love to you all! And until next week,
