A man without ambition is dead. A man with ambition but no love is dead. A man with ambition and love for his blessings here on earth is ever so alive. – Pearl Bailey
I thrive on structure and schedules. My life has been in chaos since moving to South Korea. It’s been a year and a half of trying to find a routine that truly works for me.
My goal this month is to try and outline a morning routine that I can stick with. My husband wants to start working out at 6 AM. He’s not much of a morning person, so I’m skeptical if this will happen! The biggest push I will need is to actually get up, myself.
I don’t sleep well at night. My shoulder hurts. I have phantom pains in my foot. Because of all of the antibiotics I was on, my kidneys are still healing. I get up a lot during the night. It’s just hard to go to sleep and stay asleep.
This may be pushing it, but we’re going to attempt the 6-am-wakeup. I want to where I can run again. I will need inserts in order to do that. I think. I see the doctor this week, so we’ll know for sure.
My husband really wants me to run with him. I used to be a runner. Now, not so much. I will have to recondition my knee and build my strength, but I’m willing to do it to get back to where I was!
With that being said, my plan seems a bit overwhelming when starting a new routine, especially when I’m trying to regain my strength and energy. However, we’re going to give it a go! Once I get to where I can (and receive inserts for my shoe), we will start Couch 2 5K plan. He has signed up for 10k in November. I just think he’s crazy! (Or a glutton for punishment or whatever!)
My Proposed Morning Schedule
It already makes me anxious thinking about the huge block of fitness that starts my day. I may exclude longer kickboxing sessions for the time being. When my energy returns, I might add longer classes or switch things up. I tend to get bored easily!
Likewise, I want to add weightlifting back into my routine. Right now, that is not a possibility until I can get my range of motion back. One doctor says it’s a frozen shoulder, but after having a torn rotator cuff previously, I tend to believe that is what really is going on. Lord knows they’ve been wrong before!
My priorities right now are to get back into a fitness routine, regain strength and energy, and create a sustainable, productive, and peaceful morning routine!
What is your current morning routine? What works for you? Comment below. I’d love to hear from you! I’m definitely open to suggestions!
UPDATE: Too much! This routine would have worked in the old days, but currently, this is too rigid. Instead, I will choose to take one “task” and do it for two weeks. If I like it, I’ll keep it. If not, I won’t! Slowly, I’ll add more and more to the morning routine until I find what works for me.
